Post-Production Amendments

It is our intent to be as accurate as possible in this production. It has come to our attention that there are some corrections which we have noted below. We have also posted some clarifications which should help shed some light on other areas of the video which may not appear to be accurate but in fact are. In order to remain faithful to the call of our Lord and Savior we will continue to post amendments to this site as they become known to us.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints has chosen to respond critically to the content of the Jesus Christ/Joseph Smith DVD through a press release and corresponding reference list which includes several academic channels; The Neal A. Maxwell Institute for Religious Scholarship (formerly the Foundation for Ancient Research and Mormon Studies, or FARMS), and the Foundation for Apologetic Information and Research (FAIR). The quality, complexity, and length of the arguments from these sources vary from cursory paragraph to book-length dissertation. Since the DVD distribution project consisted of a loose association of evangelistically-minded Evangelical Christians (many of them being Ex-LDS), a thoughtful response to each LDS counter-point is not as quickly collected as was done by our Mormon counterparts, them having primarily adapted pre-existing materials. Answers to the FAIR critiques are currently being prepared so please continue to monitor this area of the “Good News” site for future postings as they become available.

Corrections

5 Minutes, 55 Seconds:

Gordon B. Hinckley’s was quoted as follows:

“No I don’t believe in the traditional Christ. The traditional Christ of whom they speak is not the Christ of whom I speak. For the Christ of whom I speak has been revealed in this the dispensation of the fullness of times.”

Should read:

“No I don’t [believe in the traditional Christ]. The traditional Christ of whom they speak is not the Christ of whom I speak. For the Christ of whom I speak has been revealed in this the dispensation of the fullness of times.”

6 Minutes, 14 Seconds:

Jon McCartney’s name was spelled John McCartney

13 Minutes:

The host states:

“With the concept of God being so drastically different between the Bible and Joseph Smith’s teachings, one must wonder how Joseph Smith could claim that the Book of Mormon was another testament of Jesus Christ.”

Should read:

“With the concept of God being so drastically different between the Bible and Joseph Smith’s teachings, one must wonder how the Book of Mormon can claim itself to be another testament of Jesus Christ.”

25 Minutes, 37 Seconds:

The reference given for Brigham Young’s quote regarding the inhabitants of the sun is in error. The reference in the video is Journal of Discourses, Volume 13 p.217, but the passage is actually found in the Journal of Discourses, Volume 13 p.271.

Clarifications

12 Minutes, 50 Seconds:

The narrator states:

“Is there only one God or billions of gods? Why would God give us the Bible for instruction and life molding and later give us another testimony of Jesus Christ only to contradict each other. Does God make mistakes?”

Here an image of the Book of Mormon is shown only to symbolize the beliefs of Mormonism as a whole and not to state that the belief in polytheism is written within the Book of Mormon. We understand that multiple gods as well as godhood is not mentioned in the Book of Mormon but is included in the Doctrine and Covenants, the Pearl of Great Price as well as the Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith.

39 Minutes, 5 Seconds:

The graphic showing the 9 varying accounts of the prophets first vision was documented using the following website. Please visit http://www.irr.org/MIT/First-Vision-Scans/first-vision-1827.html for clarifications on the dates and accounts described.
